Creating a Landing Page: Documentation, Submission and Review

So we are finally approaching the conclusion of the “Creating a Landing Page” series. I want for this to series to serve you as a guide when you are submitting your next template to the marketplace – whether you are an experienced author or just getting started, both can benefit from all this information.

Let’s move on now though so you can learn the final stages of getting your theme or template approved.

The Documentation

I usually like to leave the creation of my documentation file for the end.

The main reason I do this, is because it allows me to see what plugins, images and any other assets I have used from a high-level.

It’s very important to credit the assets you have used if the developer of that resource has requested – even if they haven’t I think it’s always a good thing to do it anyway.

Remember, assets that you use for your theme preview should not be included within your main download. For more information on this topic you can check out: What Images, Videos, Code or Music Can I Use in my Items?

This is a good thing, so you avoid getting into any kind of legal situation.

But anyway, I digress – within the documentation make sure to list out all the relevant sections that correspond to your template or theme file.

I like to use the documentation structure Envato provides within their template, these are:

• HTML
• CSS Files and Structure
• JavaScript
• PSD Files
• Sources and Credits

At times I will also include a video installation walk-through – I think this is just a little nice to have as some people prefer seeing how something is done, versus reading through extensive documentation.

How To Submit Your Item To ThemeForest

When I first started with ThemeForest one of the things I found a bit confusing to get my head around was the submission process.

That’s why I decided to create this quick little video where you’ll be able to see over my shoulder, how I got about submitting the Reprise landing page template.

As I mentioned in the video, the review team will now take up to a week to review the submission and let me know if there are any problems I need to correct. If not then it will appear within the selected category and be ready for sale.

Thanks For Sticking Though

Now that the template is submitted the anticipation begins. Even though this is my fourth submission there is always that excitement that kicks in.
